Las rocas de Masmut (Peñarroya de Tastavins)

Length: 7,5 km

The excursion to ‘Les Roques del Masmut’, an impressive red calcareous hill that gives name to Peñarroya de Tastavins, departs from the path at the top of the village and goes into ‘los Puertos de Beceite’. The first stretch passes along this path, winding gently upwards. It passes by ‘la balsa de San Miguel, a plot that is presently used to prevent forest fires.

From the bottom of the hill, with its recognizable rock formations, take the path that goes around them to the right. The track heads up to ‘Mirador de les Roques’ after 20 mins, which offers the best panoramic views of the calcareous hill. Go back on the path called ‘Arroyo de los Prados’.

The descent to ‘Arroyo de los Prados’, which usually carries water, is as wild as it is beautiful. Ancient country houses, rocky paths, lush vegetation and amazing beauty sports combine to offer one of the most beautiful locations in the region.

Climb down to the stream, cross it and take a forest track. Except in case of heavy rain, there is no need to worry about getting wet. Turn left to go back to the starting point, the right side leads to ‘el Boixar’ (in the region of ‘Els Ports’, in Castellón). After passing along the last uneven section, we arrive to the starting point, going around ‘Les Roques del Masmut’ on the opposite side.
