Ruta Gótica’ (Gothic Road)
The Gothic architecture of Matarraña is framed into the well-known Gothic period of the Crown of Aragón. There are later works, but the movement’s heyday was from the 14th to the early 15th century.
On this trail, we will discover churches with very simple and austere façades, small fenestrations and some triangular or rhombic windows. In addition, roses, corbels, gargoyles and pointed arches can be found on the most prominent temples.
As well as religious buildings, the Gothic period in Matarraña also generated civilian buildings, such as the castle and the urban area of Valderrobres, and the ‘Molino Viejo’ (old mill) at La Fresneda.
