‘Denominación de origen de Teruel’ ham
The porcine sector is one of the main economic resources of the Matarraña region. It is not just the wonderful tasting cured ham (‘jamón serrano’) but also a whole range of other pork products that have gained such a prestigious reputation. Ham is one of the star products of the Matarraña region, and is categorised as ‘Denominación de Origen Jamón de Teruel’ (designation of origin). It is cured in natural spaces over 800 metres above sea level and to produce hams that weigh more than 7 kg, with a fine taste, mild and pleasant aroma and a bright colour when cut.
