Welcome to Torre de Arcas
Torre de Arcas, also known as Torredarques, is a hidden gem in the heart of the Matarraña region, Teruel. Although its current population is around 68 inhabitants (INE 2023), its history is rich and deep, stretching back to the Arab period.
Its roots were established with the donation of the castle of Monroyo by King Alfonso II of Aragon in 1185, marking its integration into the Kingdom of Aragon. The very name 'Torre de Arcas' suggests a connection with the custody of ancient treasures or deposits, a mystery that adds charm to its past. In 1791, Charles IV granted Torre de Arcas independence from Monroyo, a crucial milestone that consolidated its identity as a municipality.
This picturesque village offers a unique blend of history and nature, inviting visitors to explore its heritage and enjoy the warm hospitality of its people in a setting of peace and natural beauty.
