Welcome to Monroyo

From the feats of King Alfonso I el Batallador to the battles of the Spanish Civil War, our village has witnessed centuries of stories and conflicts that have shaped it to this day.

Relive the legacy of the fortress, at the highest point of the town, whose origins date back to the early Middle Ages, and which changed hands until the definitive conquest in 1169.

Walk through the streets that grew up in the shadow of the castle and explore its surprising secrets, such as the portal de Sant Domingo, a vestige of its ancient walls that surrounded the entire precinct of Monroyo.

Plaçeta Vieja

The Plaçeta Vieja is one of the most charming corners of Monroyo. It is a small, elongated square that forms a curious meeting point of the streets Llana, Santo Domingo, Collado and Gigantes, as well as the street del Hostal and that of Llana. This interesting intersection arises from the medieval urban structure of the village; a hillside settlement with a raised central nucleus and streets that run longitudinally through the fabric, curving along the relief of the promontory and meeting each other diagonally, with few cross streets.
