Valjunquera / Valljunquera

Valjunquera, where Iberian and Arab history intertwines with landscapes of gentle hills and the Matarraña River, offering a haven of peace and authenticity.

Welcome to Valjunquera

The name Valjunquera, derived from the Latin for «valley of rushes», reflects the lush nature that surrounds it. Located at an altitude of 552 metres and covering an area of 41.84 km², this town sits among gentle hills and is bathed by the waters of the Matarraña River, guarding a millennia-old historical legacy.

The municipality is a true archaeological treasure, home to the remains of at least three important Iberian settlements: Mirablanc, El Castellar and El Lliri, which attest to human presence since remote times. However, the origin of the settlement of Valjunquera as we know it today dates back, according to historians, to the Arab period, when the town was fortified and enclosed with walls. After the Reconquista, its fate was tied to the prestigious Order of Calatrava.

Today, Valjunquera / Valljunquera is a destination that invites you to disconnect, a haven of peace and authenticity where every corner tells a story. From its imposing architectural heritage to its serene natural landscapes, the town promises an unforgettable experience. Explore and enjoy its charm!
