Route description
A walk along the traditional path between Beceite and Cretas, which was used to drive livestock from the Beceite mountain ports down to the lower part of the Matarraña.
The trail sets off from the start of the Cretas–Lledó road: this road is left to the left, while we take the path on the right, which soon descends towards cultivated land. Extensive areas of vines and olive trees showcase the agricultural richness of this area. In the first section we cross a bridge over the former Tortosa–Val de Zafán railway line, today a Greenway.
After about 4 km along a forest track, we reach the A-231 road, which we cross to enter a woodland. This part of the route combines forested areas with others under agricultural use. Human activity is frequent here, as are farmsteads, some still in use.
We descend towards a ravine and, after crossing it, we soon leave the track to follow a small path that climbs steadily. The route now passes through its most rugged section, full of pine forest, rocks and spectacular mountain walls, such as the outline of Peña Galera visible in the background.
At the top of the climb, we turn right and take the track that begins beside a stone wall. In just a few metres, going downhill, we reach a main track which we follow to the right, arriving in Beceite in about 7 km, passing through areas with several livestock farming facilities and crossing the Ulldemó river.
