Route description
The trail runs mostly along tracks used primarily for agricultural purposes. It sets off from the lower part of the village of La Fresneda along a cobbled path towards the A-231 road (km 9.3). Shortly after crossing it, one of the route's most interesting ethnographic surprises comes into view: the remains of a large olive mill that was, together with the one in Calaceite, one of the biggest in the Crown of Aragón during the medieval period.
The ascent is steady and steep, though the short distance means the trail is not particularly demanding. In the first section, old agricultural terraces abound, with bancales where remnants of olive trees, holm oak and shrubby vegetation can still be seen.
After a short passage along a drovers' lane, we emerge onto a forest track. We follow it along its various branches, keeping an eye on the PR waymarks. Fields of olives and almond trees, and old pastoral and farming constructions, enliven this part of the route. Around km 6 we pass through a tunnel of the former Tortosa–Val de Zafán railway line, today converted into a Greenway.
Near Valdeltormo we come across, on the left, the turn-off towards the remains of the Iberian settlement of Torre Cremada (allow around half an hour extra to visit it). The final stretch, also through agricultural and pastoral land, involves a steep descent towards Valdeltormo.
