Route description
The route runs through eminently mountainous terrain that offers us a great variety of landscapes that define the Matarraña region: terra, riu i muntanya (land, river and mountain, as the poet Desideri Lombarte described it).
Over 82.28 km it links the towns of Cretas, Valderrobres, Fuentespalda, Peñarroya de Tastavins, Torre de Arcas and Monroyo. In addition, from Cretas the route connects with the Greenway and with the IE-015.
Cretas to Valderrobres section (18.9 km)
From the Old Railway Station we head towards the southwestern part of Cretas. After crossing the Val de Zafán Greenway again, we will soon see the hermitage of Los Santos. In about 5 km we reach Valderrobres after crossing the river Matarraña.
Valderrobres to Fuentespalda section (18.18 km)
From the Gothic ensemble of Valderrobres we enter a Mediterranean landscape. After the turn-off towards El Salt we pass in front of the Hermitage of San Pedro Mártir, before climbing up to Fuentespalda.
Fuentespalda to Peñarroya section (14.19 km)
We set off from the Campsite of Fuentespalda along the GR-8, pass by the Coveta de l'Aigua (a karst-type cave) and an old tile works. From here the river Tastavins accompanies us until we reach the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Fuente.
Peñarroya to Torre de Arcas section (13.91 km)
From the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Fuente, the path leads us towards the river Tastavins. We climb up towards the Mas de la Serra, beside a holm oak. We leave behind the Punta de La Cogulla and La Camiseta and begin the descent towards Torre de Arcas, passing by the hermitage of San Bernardo.
Torre de Arcas to Monroyo section (17.39 km)
The holm oaks of the hermitage of San Bernardo give way to pine forest. Our route runs through the Torre de Arcas ravine, where we will meet the GR-8. We climb near the PR-170 until we reach Monroyo.
