Route description
Difficulty: medium
Distance: 23 km (circular)
Duration: one and a half hours
The starting point is the 'starPoint-Peñarroya1300', located next to the car park on Calle Aragón, at the entrance to the town of Peñarroya de Tastavins. After taking the direction of the Tour dels Prats, the path leads into the spot known as «Els Prats baixos» (the lower meadows). Along the route you can enjoy farmsteads, cobbled paths, wells, waterwheels, ponds and a range of vineyards, cereal fields, almond and fruit trees. Near the turn-off to Mas de Nofre you take the track heading towards the Pena reservoir. 1 km further up, and after a pleasant descent, you reach the access to «Els Prats alts» (the upper meadows), from where there is a technical climb up to an old drovers' road.
From Els Prats you take a track heading towards Mas del Salvador, and you reach Mas de Sabino (with its characteristic savin junipers) along a path between pines and holm oaks; the route continues through a descending stretch and reaches the Els Prats ravine, a 150 m section that, depending on its condition, may force you to get off the mountain bike. From there a short climb begins with a 21% ramp leading to the Els Prats pass, where the route turns off onto another old, restored drovers' road that opens onto a descent reaching a ravine and Mas de Bruno. The final stretch runs above the ravines such as the toll d'Andreu or toll d'Alicates; during periods of heavy rain you can enjoy the pools (tolls). The route ends along the paved road where it links up at a junction with the route around the Virgen de la Fuente.
