A Journey Through the Heritage and Nature of Matarrana-Algars
The Matarrana-Algars Natural Trail covers 68 km along the river, from its source in Beceite to Maella. Six stages through riverside landscapes, historic villages, and pristine nature.
The Matarrana-Algars Natural Trail brings us closer to the landscape and nature of the region. Its name comes from the fact that, for most of the route, the trail follows the Matarrana River (a tributary of the Ebro), and in the future, it will also pass along the Algars (a tributary of the Matarrana).
This first phase of the Trail comprises six of the 14 stages that make up the route. The completed section of the Matarranya-Algars Natural Trail is 68 km long, linking the source of the Matarrana River (in the municipality of Beceite) with the town of Maella, following the course of the river.
The full trail will span 205 kilometres, crossing the regions of Matarrana (province of Teruel), Bajo Aragon Caspe (Zaragoza) and Terra Alta (Tarragona). The itinerary will be circular, starting from Beceite and returning to the same town after passing through Calaceite, Cretas, La Fresneda, Mazaleon, Torre del Compte, Valdeltormo, Valderrobres and Maella (first phase, completed); Fabara, Nonaspe, Fayon (second section, in planning); Caseres, Arens de Lledo and Arnes (third phase, in planning).
