Torre Cremada, Valdeltormo
Iberian settlement situated on a rise on the left bank of the Matarraña River. It features an imposing circular tower with stone walls, approximately 10 m high and of at least two storeys, interpreted as the fortified residence of the aristocratic elite. Occupation from the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD, linked to the Roman reorganisation of the territory.
Location and access
To reach this settlement in Valdeltormo, take the old road to the railway station, which leaves the N-420 road within the village itself and is signposted. After passing the turn-off to the Tossal Montañés settlement, continue approximately 500 metres to reach Torre Cremada.
The site
This settlement is located on a rise on the left bank of the Matarraña River, giving it broad control over the surrounding terrain as well as powerful natural defences.
It features an imposing circular tower built with thick stone walls that would have reached 10 metres in height, and would have had at least two storeys. A few dwellings are built against its base. This ensemble is interpreted as a fortified residence belonging to the aristocratic elite, while the rest of the population lived on the hillside. Its occupation, from the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD, is linked to the reorganisation of the territory that took place following the Roman conquest.
