Town Hall and Olive-Oil Mill of Valdeltormo

Inaugurated in August 2006, Valdeltormo's town hall stands majestically on the Plaza de España. This modern building houses the main municipal offices, including the plenary hall, the secretariat, the mayor's office and the place from which the alguacil delivers the pregones that keep local communication alive.

The basement of this same building, with access from Calle Teruel, houses a valuable museum dedicated to Iberian culture. This cultural space offers an interesting collection of objects, exhibitions and educational resources that allow visitors to immerse themselves in the history and rich Iberian cultural heritage of Valdeltormo and its surroundings, connecting the present with the ancient civilisations of the Matarraña.

The building that is today the municipal seat, known historically as "La casa del Negre o del Queretá", is a living witness to Valdeltormo's local history. Its trajectory is as diverse as it is fascinating, marking different eras and functions within the community.

Originally, its ground floor housed "el moli del negre", an olive-oil mill that operated actively until the 1950s. After it closed, in the sixties, a new tenant, José "lo Queretá" from Cretas, set up a dairy in the building. During the August festivities, it was traditional to release some of these cows onto the Plaza Mayor, an event that still lives on in collective memory.

The first floor of the building, overlooking the square, also had multiple lives. In the sixties it was a clothes shop and subsequently became a tavern and bar. It was here that one of the village's first televisions was installed, with a peculiarity: customers had to insert coins into a meter to watch it. This building, with its rich and diverse history, was donated to the Ayuntamiento de Valdeltormo in 1998 by its owner, Florencio de la Mota, establishing itself as a fundamental pillar in the life of the local community.
