Braulio Foz Burgés was born in Fórnoles in 1791 and died in Borja (Zaragoza) on 20 April 1865. He is known above all as a writer for his novel Vida de Pedro Saputo. He also distinguished himself as a humanist, professor of Greek and Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Zaragoza, founder and director of the newspaper El Eco de Aragón, and as a politician. The street of Don Braulio Foz in Fórnoles has a singular charm — it is home to the house where this great literary figure was born in 1791, now an Interpretation Centre where visitors can learn about his life and legacy. The ground floor provides information about the network of museums in the Matarraña region. The basement is devoted to the olive oil of Fórnoles and the DO of Bajo Aragón. On the first floor, visitors will find information about the Greenwich Meridian — Fórnoles is one of the few towns through which the meridian passes within its urban area. The room explains what the meridian is and how it is used, along with a map of Fórnoles showing its exact position through the village. Also on this floor there is an audiovisual room where visitors can watch a biography of Braulio Foz and other significant events of his era. The audiovisual presentation reveals who he was and the important cultural contributions he made. The second floor is dedicated to the typical architectural constructions of the Matarraña area in general and of Fórnoles in particular. The Interpretation Centre has recreated what this part of the house looked like when Braulio Foz lived there: the kitchen, the hearth, the bedroom. The third floor is designed as a study and reading room devoted to the works of Braulio Foz. The library holds books with various publications by him, as well as a welcoming space in which to read them. A prior booking at the Fórnoles Town Hall is required to visit the Interpretation Centre.
