Route of the mounds

This route allows us to enjoy and discover megalithic funerary monuments, 100 years after their discovery by P. Bosch Gimpera. With this route, we once again shed light on and remember these monumental markers that allow us to understand the reality of the funerary world during the 7th and 6th centuries BC.

Tumuli are circular burial sites, dating from the early phases of Iberian culture. They consist of a cist, or stone box, in which an urn containing the ashes of the deceased and grave goods were placed, and then covered with earth and stones. This type of burial is characteristic of this region and is distinguished by the fact that the cist is positioned eccentrically (off-center) within the tumulus.

The route follows a path through fields of ancient olive groves, cereal crops, and almond trees, interspersed with small patches of woodland, with the Ports of Beceite as a backdrop. Along the way, you can also enjoy other cultural vestiges such as the rock engravings of Mas d'en Jerra I, the old bridle path that once connected Cretas and Arens de Lledó, and the Pedrafita, which marks the municipal boundary between Arens de Lledó, Lledó, and Cretas, as well as other traditional buildings.
