Route description
We set out from Monroyo, the highest village in the comarca (856 m), along the rural track that starts from the Portal de Santo Domingo, between farmhouses. Shortly afterwards, amid holm oaks, the path runs along a stretch of cobbled road. The descent is gentle at first.
The path continues to descend, growing steadily steeper. After a little over 3 km, we reach the lowest point of the trail (720 m), at a junction of three ravines: Barranco de Castell, Barranco de la Clota and Barranco de Entre Cort. From here, a steady climb of several kilometres and hundreds of metres of elevation begins.
Once past the ravine, through poplar groves, we reach a medium-sized farmstead in a beautiful rural and agricultural setting. We continue uphill along a clay track that eventually meets a forestry road.
Following the forestry road, we reach the junction leading to Torre de Arcas. We take the turn signposted 'Fuente de la Mançana' and 'La Cogulla'. After reaching an altitude of 1,000 metres, a short descent leads to the foot of the spring — beside a forest shelter — surrounded by a beautiful walnut tree and the largest pine tree in the Monroyo district, with a girth of 2.55 m, known as 'lo pi de la font de la Mançana'. From the spring, where we can freshen up, we have the option of returning to the track and climbing the steep ascent to the highest point of the Sierra de la Cogulla, the Punta de la Camiseta, which marks the boundary between the provinces of Teruel and Castellón.
