History of the Casa dels Delmes in Mazaleón
The Casa dels Delmes in Mazaleón is a building with a rich and varied history that reflects the social and economic evolution of the town over the centuries. Originally, this construction formed part of the assets linked to the archbishopric of Zaragoza, which, thanks to a royal donation in 1175, held the feudal lordship of Mazaleón.
Located in the area of the old castle of the town, which was dismantled in the 18th century when it fell into disuse, the Casa dels Delmes was built to close off the trujales that had been left exposed to the elements. Its main function was to collect the tithe tribute, a portion of the harvests that the inhabitants had to deliver to the feudal authority.
Transformations and new uses
After the abolition of the tithe tribute in the mid-19th century, the building underwent a series of transformations. Part of it was fitted out for wine production, using its structures to house trujales. In the late 19th century, it was given a new use when a section was adapted to house municipal officials, which involved the removal of the old trujales.
In the 20th century, the Casa dels Delmes took on a more social and humanitarian role, becoming the Municipal Hospital, offering shelter and assistance to travellers and those in need. In the early 21st century, the building underwent a major restoration that transformed it into the current Interpretation centre of the Local Historical Heritage, a space dedicated to preserving and disseminating the memory of Mazaleón.

The history of the name of the street where this building stands is equally interesting. It was popularly known as the "Street of the Witches" due to its dark and sinister appearance in the past. However, during the Francoist dictatorship, the official name of the street changed to "Hospital Street" in reference to the building that served as the municipal hospital. Today, this legacy of names tells the story of the evolution of a key corner of Mazaleón.

Tithe house
Originally, a centre for the collection of feudal tributes intended for the archbishopric of Zaragoza, from the 12th century to the mid-19th century.
Wine production

Municipal accommodation
In the late 19th century, a section of the house was fitted out to provide housing for officials of the town hall of Mazaleón.

Interpretation centre
