A historic and panoramic landmark
This peirón, dedicated to San Pedro Martín de Verona, stands beside the path connecting Fuentespalda and La Portellada, set on a hill from which you can enjoy impressive views of the banks of the Tastavins River. These historic paths were part of the region's trashumancia routes.
Traditionally, the inhabitants of La Portellada gather here during the feast of San Pedro, on 29 April, to bless the municipal territory, as the hill is the highest point in the municipality from which all the plots in the area can be seen.
Did you know what a vértice geodésico is and why it is here?
Given the excellent visibility of the site, a vértice geodésico was placed here, a fundamental tool for cartography and the study of the territory. These strategic points are arranged so that from each one at least two other vértices can be seen, facilitating precise measurements. In this case, the nearest ones are those of the cerro de San Antonio in Calaceite and the Periganyol in Valderrobres.
