Traditional pastries

Discover the traditional sweets of the Matarraña: casquetas, ametlats, carquinyols and more, made with local ingredients such as almonds.

The cuisine of the region is based on the products gathered from the land, as quality raw ingredients are guaranteed, and this is evident in the typical sweets of the area.

Almond sweets

There is a great variety depending on the season, although nuts, and almonds in particular, are the main ingredient of most of them, such as ametlats, almond tart, carquinyols or secalls, panellets, and guirlatxa or nougat, typical at Christmas time.

Casquetas or Tortas de Alma

Highly characteristic of this land are the casquetas or tortes d'ànima, filled with pumpkin jam.

Other specialities and seasonal sweets

Also worth highlighting are “els crespells” or honey on borage leaves, and “coc amb mel”, made with olive oil, eggs, almonds, flour and honey, traditional to celebrate the end of the olive harvest. And for Holy Week, it is traditional to make the resting bread to prepare “les rosques” or “mones de Pasqua”.
