Olivera de Sant Pere Màrtir

From Fuentespalda, take the path that starts at the swimming pools, heading towards Valderrobres, signposted IE-039 'Pels camins del Matarranya'. After about 6 kilometres you will reach the hermitage of Sant Pere Màrtir, and just a few metres away stands this olive tree.

This is a large olive tree that forms part of a group of olive groves concentrated in this area on the right bank of the Tastavins river (a large share of the olive production of the towns of Fuentespalda and Ráfales is gathered here, along with some trees from the district of La Portellada). This is why, beside the hermitage of Sant Pere Màrtir, a simple 18th-century building, there are also the remains of an ancient olive-oil mill that was in operation until the Spanish Civil War. Three beam presses survive, made up of three enormous double pillars of ashlar masonry on which the bar presses for oil extraction rested, along with some stone troughs and grinding wheels.
