The Portal de Xifré: gateway to the history of La Fresneda

The Portal de Xifré, known locally as the Arc de la Villa, is a fundamental element of the old urban walls of La Fresneda. Strategically located on the Plaza Mayor, next to the town hall (casa consistorial), this gate served as the main entrance to the medieval town, marking a point of transition between the outside and the heart of the village.

Its architectural design is notable for the combination of a round arch on the outer façade, which provided a majestic entrance, and a segmental arch on the inner side, adapted to the structure and function of the passageway. These differences in the arching bear witness to the construction techniques of the period.
