Birthplace of Braulio Foz

Born in Fórnoles in 1791, Braulio Foz was a multifaceted figure in the history of Aragon, standing out as a teacher, politician and, above all, writer. His masterpiece, “Vida de Pedro Saputo,” published in 1844, is considered a fundamental work of Castilian literature written by an Aragonese author.

This picaresque novel narrates with agility the adventures of its protagonist through the lands of the Somontano, influencing later writers such as Ramón J. Sender through its skilful portrayal of the rural world.

Beyond his literary career, Braulio Foz left a profound mark on the academic sphere. He taught at the University of Huesca and later at the University of Zaragoza, where he held the Chair of Greek and served as dean of the Faculty of Arts.

His intellectual output was not limited to fiction; he also published important philosophical studies and research, including “Historia de Aragón,” “Idea del Gobierno y Fueros de Aragón,” and “Plan y método para la enseñanza de las letras humanas.”
