Casa del Deume or Casa Castillo

The Casa Castillo El Deume, located on the emblematic Plaza del Carmen in Cretas, province of Teruel, is a historic building of great architectural interest. This square, formerly known as the Plaza de la Señoría, was the main heart of medieval Cretas, housing structures of great significance.

The building is distinguished by its two entrances with pointed arches, one facing the square and the other at the rear, characteristic features of medieval architecture. The main facade is adorned with a distinctive lobed window and a gargoyle at the top, adding a unique ornamental touch. Arrow slits are also visible — narrow vertical openings that originally served defensive or ventilation functions. The structure is spread over three floors and has three balconies of more recent construction.

The house was built predominantly in ashlar masonry, a technique using dressed stone blocks to ensure solidity and durability. Although it is currently in private ownership, the Casa Castillo El Deume enjoys the highest level of legal protection under the Declaración genérica del Decreto de 22 de abril de 1949 and the Ley 16/1985 sobre el Patrimonio Histórico Español, guaranteeing its conservation as a valuable historic legacy for future generations of the Matarraña.
