PR-TE-169 Route from Torre del Compte to Cretas
Technical details:
Description:
The trailhead sign is located approximately 1 km from Torre del Compte, at the side of the TE-V-3001 road, which connects with the N-420 towards Calaceite or Valdeltormo. The route begins on pine woodland terrain with cultivated terraces.
We cross a dense forest full of surprises, including passing over an old tunnel of the aforementioned railway line, now converted into the Val de Zafán Greenway (Vía Verde). After a stretch of cobbled trail — an ancient cañada or Roman road — we reach high plateaux covered with century-old olive trees. Olive cultivation and oil production are evident throughout much of this route.
We head towards Cretas through areas where forests alternate with dry-farming crops (olive, vine, almond). We pass numerous mas (traditional farmhouse), most of them still in use, if not as a permanent residence, then for agricultural work, which is very important in this part of the Matarraña.
After crossing lush gorge areas and once again following cobbled paths — cañadas —, we reach a forest track in good condition. We take it to the right and, without straying from the main track, we arrive in Cretas, a village full of charm and corners of great beauty.
