Pena reservoir

A historic reservoir integrated into the landscape of the Matarraña, ideal for cooling off in summer.

The Pena reservoir is a reservoir on the Pena River that forms an inseparable part of the Matarraña landscape. Built between 1909 and 1930, its dam stands 41 metres high and 119 metres long, and holds a surface area of 129 hectares with a capacity of close to 18.5 million cubic metres.

Although its main use is agricultural irrigation, its waters and surroundings have become a key leisure and nature destination in the comarca.

What to do

  • Swimming and picnicking on the designated riverside areas in summer.
  • Cycling: a circular route of around 4.5 km from the dam to the Pena River, of low difficulty.
  • Hiking: gateway to the trails of the Puertos de Beceite massif.

How to get there

Access is by tarmac road from Beceite, or from the A-1414 between Fuentespalda and Valderrobres by taking the signposted turn-off.
