The origin of this house's name takes us back to its first owner, a man affectionately known as "el tío Escolà". Over time, the property changed hands and was acquired by the town hall secretary. It was then that it began to be known by the name of the original owner's wife, la tía Soledad. Today, it is also popularly known as "casa la Lourdes", in honour of its current owners, a reflection of its deep roots in the community.
The most astonishing thing about this house is, without doubt, the dazzling ornamentation that adorns its façade. Among the sculpted figures, the caryatids on the lintels of the first-floor balconies stand out, seemingly coming to life with grace and elegance. In addition, the house is enveloped in an exuberant vegetal ornamentation that changes on each floor, a true visual treat that surprises at every glance. Within this artistic movement, the buildings combine aesthetics with functionality, with abundant decoration, above all of vegetal elements, integrated into the architecture. Casa l'Escolà is the most outstanding Modernist work in Arens for its decorative abundance and for being the tallest house in the village, with five storeys. It follows the style of Catalan Modernisme, whose greatest exponent was Antoni Gaudí, as its author was the Barcelona architect Enrique Isern.
The separation between each floor is marked by an imposta which on the ground floor features geometric motifs.
